Revenue management, answered

Why is a listing getting so many short minimum-night stays, and can I enforce a higher minimum stay?

Short minimum-night bookings happen when your minimum stay settings are too low or unset for specific dates, and yes, you can enforce higher minimums. The platform will fill gaps with whatever it allows, so your settings are driving this, not demand.

Why Short Stays Keep Slipping Through

Most platforms apply a default minimum if you haven't set date-specific rules, and that default is often one or two nights. Gap-filling logic also overrides your base minimum when a short window opens between existing reservations. Review your calendar for orphaned gaps and check whether your platform's gap-fill settings are overriding your posted minimums. This is a settings audit issue, not a demand problem.

How to Enforce Higher Minimums Without Killing Occupancy

Set your base minimum at the threshold that protects your margin, then layer date-specific rules for peak periods, holidays, and shoulder weekends. For the gaps between existing bookings, decide intentionally whether you want to allow shorter stays at a premium nightly rate or block them entirely. A blanket high minimum with no gap strategy leaves revenue on the table, so treat gap windows as a separate pricing decision. Review these settings at least monthly across your portfolio to catch any platform resets or listing-level overrides.

Portfolio-Level Discipline on Minimum Stays

When you manage multiple listings, minimum-stay drift happens quietly, especially after platform updates or when new listings are onboarded with default settings. Build a standard minimum-stay framework for each property type and market, then audit individual listings against that framework regularly. Properties with high turnover costs need stricter minimums to protect margin, and that threshold should be documented and enforced consistently across your team.
