Revenue management, answered

What are the traps with seasonal profiles - do they repeat next year, and why doesn't my seasonal price show on every date?

Seasonal profiles do not auto-roll to next year and must be manually rebuilt or carried forward each cycle. A seasonal price only shows on a date when it sits higher than your base rate and no other rule, minimum stay, or orphan-gap logic is overriding it.

Annual Rebuild Is Not Optional

Most channel and PMS seasonal profiles expire at a calendar boundary and revert the property to base rate if you do nothing. Build your renewal review into Q4 so every market in your portfolio has confirmed profiles before bookings for peak season open. If you manage properties across multiple markets, stagger the rebuild by destination type so nothing gets missed in the rush. Treating profiles as set-and-forget is one of the most common revenue leaks we see in managed portfolios.

Why Your Seasonal Price Goes Missing on Certain Dates

A seasonal rate is typically a floor or a multiplier, and it only surfaces when it clears the active base rate plus any stacked restrictions on that date. Minimum stay requirements, last-minute discount rules, or a competing promotion can all suppress it silently without any error message. Pull a forward-looking rate audit on your calendar monthly and compare the displayed price against what your seasonal logic should produce. If the numbers diverge, work backward through your rule stack to find the conflict rather than assuming the profile is broken.

Profile Gaps Around Shoulder Periods

Managers often set a strong peak profile and a standard base rate, but leave shoulder weeks undefined, which means those dates default to base with no seasonal lift applied. Map your profiles to cover every week of the year, including the transition weeks on either side of your peaks. Undefined shoulder periods are where you quietly lose rate without it showing up as an obvious problem. Closing those gaps is usually one of the faster wins when auditing an underperforming property.
