Revenue management, answered

How do I move my weekday prices without moving my weekend prices, or the other way round?

Use day-of-week multipliers to isolate weekday or weekend pricing independently. Adjust Sunday through Thursday multipliers up or down while leaving Friday and Saturday untouched, or reverse it. Your base price stays fixed; only the day-level weights shift.

How Day-of-Week Multipliers Work in Practice

Every night's price is derived by applying a day-specific multiplier against your base rate. Weekday and weekend multipliers are independent levers, so changing one set has zero effect on the other. When you want to lift mid-week occupancy, compress the Sunday through Thursday multipliers downward relative to your weekend anchors. When weekends are soft, tighten the Friday and Saturday multipliers without touching your weekday structure.

When to Move Each Set

Weekday adjustments are most useful for markets with strong corporate or regional drive-to demand that concentrates mid-week, or when you are carrying too much weekday vacancy in a leisure-heavy portfolio. Weekend adjustments become necessary when your Saturday pickup is lagging well behind pace compared to the same window last year, or when a new supply cluster is specifically targeting weekend travelers. Review each segment separately on a rolling 30-day pace basis so you are reacting to real booking behavior, not calendar assumptions.

Avoiding Common Mistakes

The most frequent error managers make is moving the base rate to solve a day-of-week problem, which distorts pricing across all seven nights and creates unintended gaps or spikes. Keep your base rate anchored to your market position and use it sparingly for sustained, portfolio-wide shifts. Day-of-week multipliers are the precise tool for this job and should be revisited at least monthly as booking patterns evolve through the season.
